Thank You, I Needed That

I had a kid so he could tell me how great I am. No, not really. Most days he keeps me humble by pointing out my faults, such as yelling too much, not being a good cook, and not being skinny enough, being a bad driver, making him get out of the bed in the morning for school - the list goes on.

This week though, he's been anticipating Mother's Day. He made some things for me at school and started to tell me about them. I had to remind him they were to be a surprise so he had to only tell Daddy.

He was upset last night that I discovered the plastic bag, on the counter, hiding a cake he had decorated for me. He had a major meltdown and finally calmed down when I explained that I knew about the cake because I paid for it and  the teacher put a note in his bag that it was coming home on Friday. I also had to remind him that it was very hard to hide a cake from Friday to Sunday. So he decided we could eat it. I was able to get a few photos with a silly face before he had the first piece. He said Destiny R.'s was the prettiest but I told him his was the most special because he made it for me.

Today when he woke up, the first thing he wanted to know was if it was Mother's Day. Nope, one more day. He reminded me NOT to go into the garage because there was a surprise in there. Then he asked for another piece of cake.

At the grocery store this afternoon, he picked out gerbera daisies for me. He told me NOT to look at them in the cart. I got to push them around for 45 minutes after that...  He put the flowers on the checkout belt, Daddy packed them and I paid for them. When we got home, I reminded him he needed to hide them until tomorrow. He took them to his room because it was too hot in the garage.

I believe there a few more surprises that I really don't know about - hiding in the garage - until tomorrow.

Our day was typical with me reminding him to not give his breakfast to the dogs, brush his teeth, get dressed, get latched, stay in the cart, no we are not buying that, yes we can go there someday, stop running, and stop yelling. All of these along with a stint in the naughty spot.

Tonight while I was tucking him in, he said, "I'm so happy tomorrow's Mother's Day. Ya wanna know why?"
"Why?", I asked.
"Because you're my mom," he said.

Oh, how I love that little boy.

I hope y'all have a wonderful Mother's Day.
