Starting Soccer

Sy has requested to play soccer. We don't have a soccer ball and he really has only seen a little bit on TV but he was interested. I looked online and there were numerous soccer clubs playing in the 100 degree heat in August but I decided we weren't doing that.

The town up the road has a Youth Sports Program and they offer numerous sports for the kids in the area. I'm very glad you do not have to be in their school district or live in their town to participate. It is so much better than driving into San Antonio a few days a week for practices and games. We are only 3 miles away. Sweet.

We had two practices before our first game - which was this past Saturday. The kids did well. The other team had more experienced players and their coach was on them hard. Our coach is laid back and after coach pitch, I am very thankful for that. He wants the kids to have fun and learn some new skills. My kind of coach for 6 and 7 year olds.

We had practice tonight and the kids get along well and enjoy playing as a team. And because they are all at different levels, they are learning from the more skilled team members and cheering on those that are new to the sport. It's really a good combination. I hope it stays like this for the rest of the season - a whole 6 weeks.
