Tonight was our lucky night. Yep, it was. I had a feeling driving home, seeing the sky get darker and the clouds getting taller. As I got out to open the gate, I looked up to see dark clouds with tall tops sitting over my house. Can you believe it?!!?! I was so excited. When I heard the thunder - woah - what is that? Frito barked. He forgot that noise too. I clicked on the radar (we got that with digital tv conversion) and there is RED over my house. How could I be so lucky? We got just under an inch of rain as measured on the electronic rain gauge sitting on the table on the back porch. Roy is convinced it was over an inch and it just wasn't recorded. The rain came today - as long as it was more than 1/2 an inch, I'm happy. Please come back tomorrow.
Roy is talking with Jon on the phone. We are hoping to see him this weekend. We keep threatening to get together but never make definite plans. I'm glad he's holding us to getting together. He and Roy want to go to Chinese buffet. I don't like Chinese buffet but I would like to see Jon - so here we go. We are going to go to the Phoenix something or other on Perrin Beitel. Of all the Chinese buffets I have been to, it's the one that's the least scary. Wish us luck.
As for Jon, he will be 21 on September 19. He is going to SAC and living with friends in town - close to St. Mary's University. The good news is that he is still getting state support and school is paid for. That keeps a roof over his head, food in his tummy, a bus pass to get to school, and at the end of this, perhaps an associates degree. Please keep your fingers crossed.
Sy graduated to a twin bed last weekend. (A really BIG thank you to G&G Sheetz.) He was sad to see his train bed go away but he likes that his new comforter has cars on it. Just like he asked for. I would like to say that he has slept in it all by himself from the get go but I can't. He has officially completed three nights. He has been getting up and coming to our room. Roy got to try out the bed since he was kicked out of our bed. The report back is that new bed is very comfortable.
I got Sy a plush blanket and picked up one for our bed as well. It is wonderfully soft and not too hot. I am so glad I got them. They blankets are exactly the same (same brand, same color), except twin for him and queen for us. He is convinced that dada's is softer, just like he's convinced that dada' pillow is squishier. Again, the pillows are exactly the same... Let the competition begin.
I swore a few blogs ago that we were going to SeaWorld every weekend. But that hasn't happened. Sy was sick, then we got the bed... now it's raining. Again, rain is wonderful, but I really want to get to the water park. I can't wait to try out the new slides on the back side. Maybe Monday? I hope so. We don't have school on Tuesday so we can stay all day if we want to. I hope that happens.
We have been going to the Brooks City Base H-E-B. It's the nicest on the southside, in my opinion. They are carrying H-E-B's new line of natural meats. It's sad that they have to market meat as natural. What is the other stuff? So, I was checking out what they had and I noticed that the all natural, organic whole chickens were on clearance. Do you know they were asking $15.00 for a 2.5 lb whole chicken? It was marked down to just under $4.00. They had three of them so we took them. We froze one and Roy cooked two. One he cooked by itself. I took all the meat off tonight (LB and MS, I know your cringing - sorry.) The plan is make taragon chicken salad - just like CM. Yummy. The other he did in the slow cooker with potatoes, fresh green beans, carrots, mushrooms, and onions. Again, yummy! We had that last night and tonight. I hope I'm not "chickened out" before I get fresh taragon for the chicken salad.
I hope that you get rain at your house and it's not 100+! We made it to 59 days of 100 + and hopefully that phase of our lives is over, for this summer...
Enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
