Saturday and Sunday are the only days we all sleep in (7:30 a.m. this morning) and don't have to rush to be anywhere when we do wake up. These are our favorite days because we are home like family.
This morning, we watched cartoons cuddled up on the couch. We then made breakfast. Sy is awesome at stirring the eggs and the pancake batter. He has tried to flip the pancakes but that still needs work. As for the bacon, he got splattered a few weeks ago and has opted to not help with that. Fine by me. I don't want him burned by hot grease. He had two pancakes, a slice of bacon and two strawberries. I love when he eats a good meal.
Roy has taken Sy fishing over at the pond. They have just left, so I have 30-60 minutes before they will be back. I say 30-60 because Sy typically walks out high enough to fill his boots with water. When it gets uncomfortable, he will head home. He usually tells Roy that he’s tired and misses his mom, and it’s not that his boots are full of water, but when he gets back here to me, it’s a whiny little boy asking for help with his boots that are full of water. Ah, the life of a 4-year old.
I knew I needed to get caught up on this blog. I need to figure out how to fit it into my nights. DST has put a crimp in my style. Sy was going to sleep between 7-7:30 each night prior to DST moving us forward 1 hour. He now goes to bed at 8:30 p.m. Don't go any sooner because it's just a fidget and fuss for 30 minutes. It's, "Mom, rub my back. No, rub my leg. Can you tell me Nana's prayer? No, call Nana so she can tell me. I'm thirsty. I'm hungry. I'm scared. Where's quack duck? Did you bring my aqua?" Seriously. We do this for 30 minutes and then he rolls on his left side, cuddles up to blue pillow, takes a deep breath and is asleep. Just like that - asleep. So if you go to his room at 8:25, he does the last part at 8:30 and you're done. Very simple, very easy.
After breakfast, we had our 4th swim lesson back at the YMCA. He is still touch and go on whether he participates or not. Today, he did swim across the pool with Mr. Albert on his belly and on his back. His kick on the back portion was very strong. He almost ran Albert over he was moving so fast in the water. He really is a strong swimmer; I hope he gets over this fear. Next, they put the three other kids in the class in life jackets and took them to the deep end. Sy was having none of that. He didn’t want a life jacket. They told him he didn’t need to do put the jacket on but he couldn’t be down there if he didn’t. So he stayed up at the shallow end UNTIL the canoe came out. Yes, that’s right. They had a canoe in the deep end. It was a blow up one that was bright yellow and totally cool. When Sy saw that, he was all over it. He went and found a life jacket and asked me to get it on him. He wanted me to go to the deep end too so I did. He got right in that boat, went out to the middle of the pool. Mr. Albert told him to pretend the boat was on fire and he had to jump overboard to not get hurt. Sy stood right up, jump off the boat, and swam to the shore. He loved it. He did it two more times after that. The three boys in the class all loved it. The little girl did not. She was not impressed. I hope she comes back next week.
When we got home today, I went out and mowed the back yard and over by the vegetable garden. The curly cues dropping out of the oak trees has covered the side and back yard, and the porch. Roy is sneezing up a storm and can't stop blowing his nose. Sy seems to be okay since I give him his tsp of Zyrtec each and every day, no fail. I filled the bag on the mower about 15 times with those crazy curly things and the brown dust from them was every where. Ugh. I'm glad that's done until next year. I have been sneezing and have a headache so I guess it got to me today. I usually can get through this with no ill side effects. But that bagging today was really dusty.
I hope you were able to enjoy a stay at home family day with no oak pollen and lots of swimming.
