You were handed to Roy by a man on Culebra Road one summer day. You were teeny, tiny, dehydrated and scared. When the man handed you over, he walked away. Oh no, what are we going to do with you. It was 4 p.m. the vet is closed. Thankfully PetSmart had a vet clinic and could see you. They determined you had been bitten by a dog and that your front leg was broken. You had puncture wounds on your stomach and they weren't sure you would last through the night. They gave you a large dose of saline under your skin, told us to take you home and visit our vet on Monday. So we got some cans of soft food and home we went. We named you Sushi because we were on our way to eat sushi when you were handed to us.
They were able to fix your leg and you hobbled around with a pink caste for six long weeks. You were very timid and shy, hiding when ever someone or something you didn't know was near. You would climb up me while I was eating at the table so you could see what I had. Those claws were so sharp! I'm glad that has stopped.
When we moved from Kings Hwy to the country, you had a really hard time adjusting to this place. You lived in the closet for three months afraid to come out. My dresser was in there and you would climb up in the back and sleep in the bottom drawer. At one point, you got out and I found you under the house, all the way at the garage end which meant I had to belly crawl the length of the house to get you. I put you in a paper bag. I know cruel, but I knew I wouldn't be able to hold you and get out of there, it was too tight and cramped. It was miserable for both of us. But I was able to get all the cobwebs out of my hair, not get bitten by a snake or spider and you have adjusted to life in the country much more than ever expected.
It's been 8 years that you have had the run of these 5 acres and you have grown to love hunting in the yard, sleeping under the stars, and climbing the oak tree to sit on the roof. You still don't like strangers but you have warmed up to Roy, the dogs and other cats and that is great to see. You are the only cat at the present time that will let Sy pet you. He thinks you're awesome.
You are a persian, siamese mix.The tough start you had in life stunted your growth. You have never weighed more than 5 lbs and are about the size of a 4 month old cat. But you have the attitude and adventurous spirit of a cheetah.
On cold nights (October - March) you come in around 8 p.m. and find your spot on the bed. When I come in and get settled, you find a spot on me. Typically nestled in my arm or on my rib cage. When I get up at 6 a.m., you are ready to be let out so you can get on with your day. It's been a good routine, we both know it, like it, and expect it. Thanks for a great 10 years. I hope we get 10 more together.
