We enjoy Japanese food. This began when Roy went to Japan on a Rotary Business Exchange program. He went for dinner with his group prior to going to Japan. I didn't go to the Japanese restaurant with him until he came back. I had tried sushi in MD with Jennifer- a girl I worked with - but I wasn't impressed and didn't understand when people bragged at how good it was. Needless to say what I had was not that good.
When Roy and I went to Niki's Tokyo Inn - I was hooked. Not on rolls but on Japanese food. Small portions, lots of courses and it was all good. I didn't pick anything weird but Roy ate all raw fish as that was what he had grown to like while in Japan. I have tried some raw but mostly I like the cooked options.
Since getting comfortable with Japanese food by going to Nikki's and a few other Japanese restaurants in town, we have ventured to trying the sushi rolls at HEB.
Most HEBs have sushi stations and we got one at when the Plus store opened in October. We have gotten rolls a few times in the last month because they are easy to pick up while at the store.
In early December, Roy got a bee in his bonnet and decided to try to roll his own sushi here at home. He made a list of what he needed and watched a few You Tube videos and decided he was ready. He did a great job! It was really good. He even tried to replicate the yummy cucumber salad they have at Niki's and he nailed it!
So yummy!
