So Sy has had what we thought were allergy issues which started at about 6 months old. The pediatrician told me to put him on Zyrtec but I didn't want to feed my kid meds every day so I didn't do it. He got colds, bronchitis, a touch of pneumonia quite a few times in his first 2 years. Ugh. I didn't like it.
So, I finally listened to the ped and started giving him a teaspoon of Zyrtec every morning. Low and behold, the cough, sneezing, runny nose, and all the icky stuff that comes with them were gone - and they stayed gone. I was so excited.
But, I still am not happy about him being on meds every single day. He likes it and gives me no problem about taking it but still.
So at our annual wellness visit, we discussed allergy testing. We went to see the allergist over Spring Break. I tried to prepare him for the testing. I don't remember it hurting and that's what got him. I guess she really pushed those serums into his back.
I had him off Zyrtec for 4 days prior to going. I was sure he was going to get sick. He developed a horrible cough, continuous runny nose, and sneezing here and there. The allergist came in and asked a ton of questions and did an evaluation. She was sure he was going to have a lot of allergies too - which is what we figured was the issue. And I wanted to know what I was fighting off with Zyrtec.
He did really well while waiting. You have to stay on your stomach and can't touch your back. We played Stack the States. (Thank you, iPhone apps)
They came in to take a look - nothing. No reactions to anything thing. Amazing.
The allergist was very surprised. She thinks it's his adeniods or a reflux issue. Our next stop is with the ENT next week. Until then, Zyrtec, you are our friend.
