Saturday was the Lytle Homecoming Parade. The local bar and Chinese restaurant had a float, so all of the Natalia VFD trucks showed up to. It's a good excuse to get them out and run them, is what I am told. There's another the second Saturday in November in Devine, in case you are looking for a parade.
M brought Doopy Doo and Arizona to ride with us. We were first this year, last year we were last but they parked us at the front of the line and Sy Roy made out like a bandit on candy. This year, we made our way down Main Street with Doopy and Sy competing over who could blow the airhorn the most, we hung a left and came back around so the kids could watch the parade. Arizona figured out right quick that the candy was to be picked up and put in the bag. That's the best part.
I'm amazed at how much candy is thrown here. At home, it seemed like a few floats would have candy but it was a real treat and I never got more than a few pieces. Here, bring a bag, a really big bag, because you are going home with a LOT of candy. Every float has it. Amazing. There is only one dentist in Lytle, he must be very busy.
Besides cavities, the other bad part about all the candy is that these kids that were in the same area we wound up being in to watch the parade, were literally going right up to the floats and DEMANDING candy. I saw the two with me following and I cut that off quickly. First off all, it's rude and second of all, it's a good way to run over. Devine does not allow candy at their parade. The urban legend is that a kid was run over by a float trying to get the candy. Not sure if it's true or not, but I hold their city a little higher up that they have not caved on this.
Parade over, car keys found (they were temporarily lost- my fault somehow), we had lunch at our house and then off to the pumpkin patch for the afternoon. The kids were spent before we left, what were we thinking?
They did have fun. They panned for gems, raced ducks, fished, did the barrel and hayride, played on the playground and did the hay maze. We never got to the pumpkins. Nope, too many other things to do and by the time we were ready to head in that direction, it really was time to go.
Arizona was trying to look at her eyelids before we even got to our house and Sy asked me this morning, if we could go back because it wasn't far away.
When he got up this morning, he wanted me to make him breakfast. Of course, I told him. Then he asked, if he ate all his breakfast could have some candy...
