Why is that when I'm not at the computer, I can think of a million things to say in this blog? They all, of course, are brilliant and funny, not at all like the stuff that actually makes it this far.
I will start by saying that I'm really glad we have a computer back in the house. Full disclosure, the laptop I am currently typing on was purchased by the Natalia Volunteer Fire Department with tax dollars. For those who don't know, Roy is the President and has been for years now. It's another full time job that is fully volunteer, except that they let him keep this fancy laptop at our house. He really does do work on it, it's full of documents AND we contracted and pay monthly for the USB internet connection that links us to the virtual web world. The laptop, I consider payment for all the time this second job takes my husband away from our family and detours him from doing the job for which he actually gets paid. I hope I am not breaking any ethics laws because I do enjoy this fancy piece of equipment - although I could trash the Vista OS at any second. Don't try me.
So as a "mommy blogger", I read other mommy blogs out there - And there are a ton out there. What I have found from browsing is that a lot of these mommies stay home and home school their children. Two things I will never do - well never say never, right. I will most likely not do in this lifetime. Is that better? I have found one that actually works as a teacher. She is the mother of two and finds time to run. I'm not sure when this happens, she either has an awesome husband who takes the children for an hour or two so she can run or gets up at an insane hour... The other mother that works, has four children, but she works from home and according to her, has this terrific husband who spends a great deal of time being an awesome father. The interesting part is that none of these women talk about help. Do they have a babysitter, nanny, great husband who has nothing better to do? It's probably nanny or sitter but they never speak of these wonderful behind the scenes people.
I do have Nana (Esther) and Tata (Tony), Monday thru Thursday and G&G Sheetz on Fridays. They are awesome at taking care of my child while I am off at work from 8-5 Monday - Friday, rain or shine, puking, no puking, etc. So when do I do my blog? It gets done when Sy is asleep and Roy is either at a meeting, working on a project, or watching a movie I really don't want to see. Hence the gap between postings.
Another thing these mommy bloggers do is tell you how wonderful their husbands are. This may not be a bad thing. In a recent edition of Parents magazine had a great article summarizing a survey moms (of all kinds) participated in regarding whether or not they get mad at their spouse. Seems that we mommies get really mad at our husbands and the more children you have and the closer together they are in age, the more mad we get. I was glad to learn that I was not alone. So here is my list. I'm not going to put a number on how many there will be, I will just start and see where we wind up.
The wonderful Roy:
1. Makes dinner most nights and it's edible
2. Keeps Sy some Thursdays (the best part is that I leave with Sy happy and come home to Sy happy - major improvement)
3. Took Sy to the doctor and for lab work
4. Feeds the animals (all six of them), gives them their medicines, and takes them to the vet when needed
5. Keeps up with the vegetable beds, greenhouse, and orchard
6. Is very persuasive and can think on his feet (he should have been a lawyer)
7. Likes a good bottle of wine (or two, or three)
8. Has done the same work for 20 years now and is very good it
9. Will do the grocery shopping by himself
10. Has gotten up with Sy and me for three weekends in a row (record!)
11. Lets Sy help him with projects
12. He has become very skilled at home improvement projects - the bedrooms, bathroom, and hallway are done. Foyer will be added to this list in the next week or so.
13. Reads to Sy at 6:30 a.m. while I'm getting ready for work
If you are mommy out there and feel a little twinge of the angries coming on - do the list, I dare you. It actually gets easier as you do it... I was stuck at #7 for a while, but the next 6 just rolled.
Speaking of the foyer (part of #12), Roy let Sy help him paint the crown molding this weekend. It was a great indoor project during the rain. Sy had a lot of fun and was very excited that Dada let him help. Roy took all the messes and globs like a champ.
