So what are you going to be for Halloween? I am not a big fan of this holiday. As a child, I was usually sick and the night was always made out to be bigger than it ever got in that little village I grew up in. Now that I have a little person, I have to figure this out and plan ahead so we are ready AND be excited. He has wanted to be Batman for the last 6 weeks. His Aunt Lissa got him a really cool batman cap to wear and I got him an all black outfit (lightweight so he doesn't get heat exhaustion). I need to alter the cap a little bit but he's going to be a really cool batman. I hope it works out to be a fun evening. We just need to decide if we are staying in Natalia or going across town to trick or treat with the cousins. I have a feeling we will stay here. Natalia may be small and not much going on every other day of the year, but on Halloween, it's a big party. I have never seen so many families and people out celebrating. It's wild. Roy usually gives out candy at the fire station. So if we stay here, we can park at the fire house and walk around town. It's small enough and it will wear the kiddo out. I may even take the wagon so if he gets too tired, I can put him in it instead of having to carry all 45 lbs of him (plus candy).
So, the bed is working out. I bought the jersey knit sheets for it. It took me a week to realize that the reason he was getting up in the middle of the night and coming to our bed was because he was getting tangled in the sheets and it was waking him up. I made the bed and had him sleep on his plush blanket with his "throw" blanket over him. He slept through the night, no problems. Even when he needed to get up to go potty, he went right back to his bed. We have flannel sheets on our bed - year round. They are really comfortable and feel great in the a/c, which is our lives in South Texas. So now that flannel is available again (yes, although it was 91 today, it's considered flannel season) I was able to snag sheets for both Sy's bed and our bed. JC Penney was having a sale - 60% off. I was very excited. We bought them yesterday on the way to Mac's party (very fun) and I got them washed and put on his bed today. I hope he sleeps through the night.
Small promotion for the sheets. I put ours on our bed last night. The flannel sheets we have had in the past (from other stores) have fit very snug - you have to pull hard to get them to latch in the corners. I was very happy to see this wasn't the case with these. They fit perfectly even with the deep pillow top. They didn't have a deep pocket option nor an ex-long mattress option for the twin. I just took a gamble and won. Very happy with how they fit.
We ran some errands today - groceries and Home Depot - our two most visited stores. But, we went in another direction today though. I have been telling Roy for the past year that 1604 and Potranco and 1604 and Culebra have been developed and offer some good stores to shop at. Home Depot and Lowe's are across from each other. There's a Super Target, Super WalMart and a huge HEB in close range. He continued to go to Military on the Southside. No offense to Military but it's crowded and the stores sometimes lack in options. I got him to go in the new direction because a co-worker mentioned that the HEB garden area had trees. I told him they maybe they would have some of the palms he was looking for... that peaked his interest. OOOHHH... We hit Home Depot. They didn't have everything we needed - but Lowe's (across the highway) did. We made a quick bee-line for Super Target - popcorn for the masses and then onto HEB. The HEB Plus at Potranco is very nice. Much nicer than the one at Military and Zarzamora and the store overall is nicer than the one at Brooks City Base (where we've been going) and definitely superior to the Lytle store. They even had bread in the bakery that was brown - rye, pumpernickel, whole grain, and sunflower. How devine. The seafood counter and deli had a lot to choose from and the options in the sundry aisles was great. Walking to the car, Roy said that unless we needed a quick item, the Lytle store is no longer on the map. He's hooked on this location. Now I just need to get him there at odd times so the place isn't so busy.
I have to mention here that for the last two weeks Roy has been getting up with Sy and I on weekend mornings. I know that doesn't sound like news but it is. He typically sleeps in until 10-11-Noon - depending on his mood, the weather, traffic, etc. As the 75% majority in the household, Sy and I actually enjoy having him get up. We don't have to be quiet (which I love because it is way too hard to keep a 3 year old quiet) , we get someone else to talk to and argue about whether we are watching news or cartoons and we get to eat breakfast together. We also get an earlier start on our chore list. It's amazing what you can get done between 7 and 11 if the whole house is up and going. The catch... because Roy gets up, he believes he's entitled to a nap in the afternoon. I'm keeping my mouth shut about this one because I did tell him if he got up with us, I would have no problem letting him take a nap. It's all about compromise, right?
Cute story time. Sy told me yesterday on our way to Mac's party that he wanted a mud stain. A mud stain, I replied. Why do you want a mud stain? He looked puzzled. So I asked what does a mud stain do? He told me it goes fast. Turns out he wants a Mustang, the sports car. So we worked on the differences between a mud stain and a Mustang during the drive. We also worked on our phone number. Mama Margie's lemonade helps you to practice and remember your phone number. I didn't see that in the "How to Raise Your Child' handbook but it's a small detail so maybe it was edited out. Yes. It's a fact, he kept dropping the "42" from the last four digits but got it down pat with a few sips of lemonade. And when I asked for him to repeat it, he had to have a sip before he could proceed. Whatever works, right?
Okay, time to make sure I'm ready for the week to begin at oh-six-hundred. Have a delightful week. May you not be living the humid and unseasonably hot week that we will be having, in your neck of the woods.
