My last post was in January - January - man, 5 weeks at the least since I've visited this space. I've thought about it and I've been really close but then something comes up and I'm logging off. Tonight though, Roy is working and Sy is asleep. I've gotten everything ready for tomorrow and with only myself to feed dinner to, clean up was a cinch. So here I am.
What did we do in February? Well, the highlight of the month was the failed attempt at private swim lessons. Don't let the word "private" fool you, they were not expensive. The City of San Antonio actually has a natatorium over on West Durango across from Sydney Lanier High School. It's a very nice facility, old, but nice. They offer lessons - $35 for four 30 minute sessions. Very affordable. Sy didn't like them. He didn't like the pool, he didn't like the instructor - none of it. He seemed to take it like a champ the first night but the second night - no way, he was not getting in that pool. All he did was cry. The third night, he wouldn't even go in the building. The fourth night, I got him with him. He was fine with that. I didn't got back for lessons 5-8. I didn't want to reinforce that he had to hold on to me for dear life in the water. I know $35 down the tube but I left the YMCA last summer with a little boy who was trying to swim on his own. I thought that a few private lessons would help him move forward with that endeavor. WRONG. Mama learned a lesson. Sy likes Miss Patty at the Y. She doesn't hold him too tight, he can touch in the shallow end, if he has to, and she likes his guns (muscles). So just this last week, I stopped by our friendly YMCA on Davis Street and signed my dear little boy up for his Saturday morning 30 minute group lesson with Miss Patty. He is very excited.
The other thing I learned while visiting the Y is that they have a beginners class for basketball for 3-5 year olds. It starts on the last day of the swim lesson sessions. I am going to sign him up for that because last year when we left swimming, they were playing basketball in the gym and he insisted on going in there even though we were not signed up. It was a scene every week. So I'm going to sign him up. Wish me luck.
