I actually started a post on The Shred last January - as in a year and six months ago. I know I did it for at least a month and then I got sick and didn't go back. The good news is that it worked. In that month - and I didn't do it every day (like the dvd says to do) I still saw improvements - both to my body and my energy level. The bad news is that was one year and six months ago.
When I started this new job at the end of November - 7 months ago - I was excited they had a gym that we could use. I started bringing my workout clothes in January and started walking on the treadmill every afternoon. I even got to the point where I was running and changing up inclines to simulate hills. I gave the treadmill 30 minutes every day - Monday through Friday. I felt better but the scale wasn't budging. I had more energy but I didn't make significant changes to my body. Then the Christmas rush came. I was at my desk all. day. long. Even for lunch. I drank my coffee and grabbed my taco on the way in so I didn't have to go down to the cafeteria. I was there until 6 and sometimes 7 for six long weeks. I didn't go to the gym. By the time I was done, I just wanted to go home and veg. I still did laundry, dishes and vacuuming but no real exercise.
Once the Christmas rush was subsiding, I took the opportunity to get back to the gym. I knew that I needed to add weights into my routine. We worked out with a trainer one afternoon and she showed us how to use the weight machines. I wasn't sure I would just pick that up - but I knew I would suffer through The Shred for 30 minutes.
So I packed up the dvd and took it with me. I am able to use the weights and yoga mats at the gym. I put the dvd in while I'm changing so I don't have to stand through the previews. When I come out, I grab the weights and yoga mat while she's introducing the girls and I'm ready when they are.
So far I've gotten through 2 weeks. I missed two weeks too because I was sick and on vacation but I came right back to it. For now my goal is to get through all 3 levels. I'm not sure I will get them done in 30 days but that's not the goal. The goal is to feel better and improve my strength. And to stick with it.
