Before the wedding, six years ago, Roy and Jim textured the walls in the foyer. I then decided they needed paint on them. Melissa came down and I experimented with golds and burgundy. It wasn't working. Roy saw a Ralph Lauren faux finish he though would be nice. So we did it on the walls. The base color was a periwinkle blue (very pretty) and the top coat was a (very dark navy blue). Getting it right was a pain because if we followed their directions, we had blocks of uneveness and it looked terrible. Finally, we figured it out. Roy took the blue on the roller and went down in columns then across it diagonally and I was right behind him with HEB plastics bags hitting the wall to pull some of the color off. It worked well and once we figured it out, it looked really cool too.
You can see the color on the walls - this is a picture of the frame around the arch which wasn't there until recently.
Then we did Sy's room. Prior to beginning the project, I suggested that the small closet in this room should be included into Sy's closet to make his room have more storage. Roy wasn't thrilled with this idea until he tore out the walls. So during a phone call (I was in PA while this destruction was happening) he told me he was adding the closet to Sy's project. Great! But in the process, he and Jim had to patch the wall in the foyer area. So I lived with this for at least six months.

Finally, it is done. The wall color, the trim, the ceiling. It's all done. Six years after staring, its done. How wonderful. Melissa said it looks really nice and blends better with the space around it. Good. I am really glad the blue wasn't going to be able to go back up. I have a hard time having rooms open into one another to the extent ours are and not have them compliment each other better. Now they do. Progress is good. And Roy did awesome work - although I helped hold the crown molding while he nailed it into place. That was really hard.
Corner pieces - you can just see a bit of the ceiling tiles on the top right.
The door got trim too - bottom left - the arch joins with the living room (that's not done) and the crown molding and walls are now done.

A better picture of the ceiling tile.
It's nice to have this finished. The Christmas tree is going to look so good in the corner - if it ever comes in the house.
