‘Tis the Season

The tree is still on the front porch. I’m not sure why it didn’t come in today. I’m guessing Roy doesn’t want to have to get the decorations out of the storage area. It’s just a hunch…but I’m a betting woman.
All week they teased us about snow on Friday. Well Friday came and went, and there was no snow. But it was cold. It was 21.2 degrees this morning when the sun came up. Sy loved it. He thought the ice was fantastic and loved that he had to be bundled up. He told me that the white stuff on the grass couldn’t be ice.  It was white so we had a little science class in the orchard. I hope he remembers it for the real class.
We were outside for about 2 hours. It was great. We finally came in to eat breakfast and thaw out.

Before we made breakfast, Sy helped me unload the dishwasher.  I so enjoy that he likes doing this. He can get all the silverware and utensils to the right place and even knows that the steak knives are really sharp and he has to be extra careful and let me help him. But he can open the drawer, get the silverware and put it in the right spot. AND best of all, he likes doing it and is upset when he doesn’t get to help. I hope this stays with him for life.
Santa came to Natalia today by fire truck. We rode with Roy to welcome him to town. We were surprised that Sy actually shook his hand. What a big accomplishment from past years. He does not like that man and wants nothing to do with him. Even today once he shook his hand, he ran and hid behind me and wouldn’t tell him what he wanted. But we are moving in the right direction.
One of the funniest things this holiday season is Nana’s Naughty/Nice list for Sy and Erica.  Nana marks down if they are naughty or nice each day for Santa. Sy doesn’t like that list and keeps telling Nana he’s going to tear it up. Ah, to be 3 again. Too funny.
Earlier this week, I attempted to get a picture for the Christmas card. I wound up using the gingerbread house one in front of the naked tree.  But here are three that he posed for in last year’s Christmas jammies.
IMG_0081 IMG_0079 IMG_0080He is a ham because he gets to see himself on the screen once I take the photo. He thinks it’s hysterical to see himself in funny poses.
I am sticking with my three gift rule. It’s actually easy right now because he can’t decide what he wants. I have a wooden tool box with tools and a Speed Racer Car for him so far. I need a third gift.  I’m going to wait to see what he gets for his birthday. Right now, it’s down to more inserts for his Story Reader book that Erica and family got him last year, or a microphone that has a speaker. It’s a much needed item for the future rock star in him. And Toys R Us has both of these items in stock and I have “free” money from them. I typically do not shop there because it’s not convenient but I may need to stop by because it just is easy to make sure we have cool gifts under the tree.
In addition to Santa coming today, we when to Harris Western Wear and tried on jeans and cowboy boots. The jeans (Wrangler and Crush) didn’t fit him well. And the boots, fit but they were pretty dressy. A little more flashy than daddy would like and I wouldn’t want them out in the mud. The ropers were too big. I talked him into leaving them and I am going to check Cavender’s before we buy.
I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season and the gift buying, cookie baking, and parties are going well.  And most all, staying warm and remembering the reason for the season.
