The Holidays are Here

What a wonderful long weekend we had last week. I’m still recovering. We went to Sandra’s for Thanksgiving and spent the day with the family. Lots of yummy food!  I didn’t eat the rest of the day and we ate at noon. That’s how full I was. I always say I won’t do that, but I go and do it – every year. One day I will learn.
I took about 20 Matchbox cars for Sy and he found a ton more in the playroom closet. Auntie Sandra said he could bring them ALL home. So we literally came home with 75 cars, maybe more, I haven’t stopped to count. They kept Sy very busy on Friday and Saturday.
G&G Sheetz also got him a Radio Flyer scooter that he took down the sidewalk a few times. It looks like a lot of fun. I’m sure he will enjoy that on Fridays when he visits them.
Let’s see, what else did we do – well, we got our Christmas tree.  It’s on the front porch and looks great.  I moved the living room around to accommodate it, but it’s still on the front porch.  Roy has been busy concocting a contraption to hold a tarp over the large bougainvillea in the back yard.  He’s afraid that it will freeze and die in our very cold 35 degrees.
We put together a gingerbread house. The one that comes in the kit. It isn’t the prettiest it could be but Sy has a ball doing it and that’s what counts. He’s been looking forward to putting it together since July. He eats some of the candy and NONE of the gingerbread. He is not a fan of gingerbread, pumpkin, or apple pie.  It’s a sad day for the mama but I’m optimistic his tastes will change as he gets older.
Saturday night we went on the hayride with Santa in Lytle.  It’s great, you donate a canned good, that is used to build food baskets for the needy for the holidays, and you get to ride on a hay wagon and go around to look at the holiday lights. This year, we were joined by Aunt Melissa, Tadan, Carson, Tia Lizzie, and Sarah.  It was cold, but not as cold as last year. And the nicest process improvement, it was not as long. Last year, I promise you we were  on that wagon for over 2 hours. Oh my word. That is way too long with kids.
Sunday, we stayed home. I did a lot of laundry, dishes, and vacuuming. Roy worked outside and Sy floated between the two of us. Roy got 26 baby sago palms off our four planted out front.  He repotted them and put them at the greenhouse so they will be ready to go in the ground next winter. I think we should sell some.  We already have about 30 planted around the property. At some point, it just becomes obnoxious, don’t ya think?
I put together our Christmas card but when I went to print them tonight, I realized our printer is getting old. The color is off and they are streaky. So, I’m going to load some photos up on the jump drive and walk myself to Walgreen’s tomorrow and have them print me up some nice looking cards to send off.
Roy also did a really nice piece to go in front of the sink, you know where I’m missing the sink base I spoke of in another blog a while back?  Well, it turned out really nice.  I haven’t taken a photo of it yet because, well, the backsplash still isn’t done so I’m waiting to take photos of all it together and then post them.  The good news on this project is that Roy is sticking with it and it looks like it won’t take forever to finish. I like that idea.
Now, I’m going to go enter us to win the $5,000 Home Depot Card for giving them my opinion.  You think with how much of our disposable income goes to this big orange box, they would just offer us a 5% rebate.  That would be divine but no, I have to fill out the survey and we never win. Oh, right, stay optimistic.  You can’t win if you don’t enter.  So I’m off.  Wish us luck. I will remember when I’m number 32 and bored out of my mind that it’s all in the hopes of getting a new kitchen to go with the sink and faucet.
