Yesterday I forgot my cell phone at home. This typically doesn't happen and I was already downtown by the time I realized it wasn't with me so there was no turning back. I rang Roy mid-morning to let him know if he needed me to call my desk but he didn't answer. After lunch, he sees he missed my call and calls me back. I tell him I forgot my phone. I left it in the bathroom. (That's where we charge the phones. Not sure why that became the place to charge phones; but, it did. The house is small, work with me.)
He called back right before I was leaving for the day and said he would pick up Sy. This is usually the phone call we have while I'm driving home and I figure he called because he knew I didn't have my phone. Anyway, I get home, get my phone and see that I have 4 missed calls from him. So I hit redial and he answers.
Me - "Did you call me?"
R - "Well I did while I was in H-E-B. I needed to know what else was on the grocery list."
Me -"I left my phone at home. Remember, we talked about that today?"
R - "Oh, I thought you left your phone in the bathroom at work."
Me - "Why would I leave my phone in the bathroom at work?"
R - "I don't know."
Me - "Doesn't it come T work?"
R - "No, it comes up ICE Tamara ... the listing is too long so I don't know if it's your cell or desk phone."
We had a good laugh, I confirmed he had Sy, and he proceeded to tell me what he bought at the store. But...
Where this leads me to is the ICE. It stands for In Case of Emergency. Roy said that when he is called out with the fire department to auto accidents, if the people unable to communicate, they will look for a cell phone and check to see if they have someone listed under ICE.
From that conversation, I changed his name in my cell to ICE Roy and in his cell phone, I'm ICE Tamara. We don't have passwords on our phones so anyone can grab our phones, make a call, send a text and if needed, look in the address book for ICE contacts.
If you have a password on your phone - what do you do? Not sure. I think I would write it on a piece of paper and tape it to the inside of the glove compartment door.
It never occurred to me that this is how they figured out who to call when you got hurt - but it makes sense since most of us have a cell phone these days.
So, here's hoping it's never needed; but just in case, they will know who to call. That is if I didn't forget it in the bathroom.
