DST and Spring Break

They shouldn't put Daylight Savings Time at the beginning of Spring Break or at the end of it for that matter. I don't like DST and with it hitting over Spring Break, well it's just wrong. The kids are off so their internal clocks aren't going to figure it out until school starts again. If you are off with them, same thing for you. If you have to work then you are fighting to adjust but you really can't because the kids evenings are on a different schedule. The whole away around it just prolongs this miserable transition.

Why don't I like DST? Well, the biggest issue for me is that it's dark in the morning when I need to get up for work. I couldn't figure out why, after moving to Texas, I had such a hard time getting up and going in the morning, even with a good nights sleep. I realized that the sun comes up earlier in PA and NY. First time I noticed it I was on a business trip to NYC. I got up refreshed, ready to go, and had no problem walking at 6 am. When I was home with Sy two summers ago, we were up and going at 6:30 and it was bright outside with sunshine coming through the windows. Here at 6:30 am it's still pitch black and when I leave at 7 am, the sun is trying with all it's might to come over the horizon.

The other reason why I don't like it is 1 hour is very hard to adjust to. Maybe I'm just getting old but it seems to me, I used to have a hard time in school too - meaning high school.

The next reason, well, it's called an "I'm not tired" meltdown. We have this a handful of times a year but with no fail, most of them happen when the clocks move 1 hour in either direction. Since I can still get this from time to time, I feel his pain and realize he is not in control. But man, getting him to actually lie down and close his eyes takes a lot of patience. And since I have an awesome negotiator on my hands, he's crying, telling me he's not tired and if he gives me 5 minutes of quiet then will I let him play for 30 minutes? What about if he goes to time out for 7 hours? Will that work? He was out before the 5 minutes was up.

We went to SeaWorld for the day last Tuesday. It was packed but we had fun. Started our summer tans and Sy was brave enough to try out the water park. He didn't last long, it was FREEZING! We spent most of time at Sesame Street's Bay of Play. It replaced Happy Harbor. They did a very nice job on it and I think we will be spending more time there this summer.

Friday, G&G Sheetz took Sy and the cousins to Morgan's Wonderland. They had a good time and the park looks very nice. Sy told us all about it and is looking forward to going back.

We also went to the movies. Sunday morning while you all were either sleeping, getting a coffee, or actually sitting in church, Sy and I were watching Rango. Cute movie. He spent the afternoon telling us "the lizard, he's going to die". After that, we went to Burger King because they had (keyword) Rango toys in their happy meals. Nope, not this one. He got a Mr. Krabs. He wasn't impressed. And neither was I. I mentioned they may want to take the sign down promoting those toys since they couldn't actually deliver.

We spent quite a bit of time working on the area down by the fish room. The tall dead grass got bagged on the highest setting, then I came back and bagged again on the 2nd to lowest setting. It looks good but there is a lot still left to do. But that will be the story for the rest of the summer.

High 80's by the end of the week and a sea of green pollen. Loving the warm weather. The pollen, not so much.
