A New Year

It's 36 minutes into 2012 based on the atomic clock sitting a few feet from me as I write this. I can still hear fireworks going off in the distance. Sy made it to midnight thanks to help from the other kids at the firehouse. They played hard but by 11 you could tell they were beat. All but the youngest one made it to see the new year come in with hundreds of fireworks going off all throughout the town.

2011 was overall a good year. We got home to PA for a visit, we did some work on the house, Sy and I spent a lot of time at SeaWorld, I got a new job (with benefits), and we have ended it healthy and happy. It's all good. Of course, I hope you don't think that is was all roses and sunshine, do you? It wasn't but I'm not dwelling on that right now, more than not, it was good and that is what I wish to dwell on.

I am looking forward to 2012. I have a lot of "plans" being formulated for this year. I hope I can afford to do them all - time and money - that's all it takes, right?  Sy wants to see snow. Since my sister has a new home not far from a city Southwest flies to, I figured it would be cheap and easy to fly to see them for a weekend. Sy would see snow - sleigh ride in their back yard - and if we were lucky, we could find a snowmobile rental place because he wants to do that too. And we would be able to see some family while we were at it - Perfect! Well the price of tickets is more than flying to my Dad's. The only saving grace for her city is that the layover to get to my Dad's is in Detroit. Seriously not risking that in the middle of winter.

Right now, it looks like both these options are off the table. Ruidoso is only 10 hours away and they have sleigh riding in the form of tubing and Cloudcroft has a snowmobile outfitter and it's only an hour from Ruidoso. I think we will be doing that if I can time the weekend correctly for snow to be on the ground.

We also want to get to the coast. I'm pretty sure this will happen even before January has ended. We talked about it all last year but just didn't get around to it. Hello, it's only 2 hours away. You would think we lived 12 hours away. We want to go to the aquarium and the Lexington - both in Corpus. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we will be able to play in the surf too.

In July my class will have it's 25 year reunion. I am hoping to go. My best friend in high school says she will come too. I hope we can work it out. I would love to see her. Now that I have a full time position - with benefits - I should be able to work my time off around air fare that doesn't break the bank. And if that's the case, we will be going to PA in July.

On the home front, we would like to get siding on the house. It's not like it's bringing down the neighborhood that we have painted plywood (if you have been to the neighborhood, you would understand) but it would look nicer and it would be great to knock this off the home improvement list.  I am also hoping to pour a slab for a storage building.

Roy will probably need a new truck before year's end and who knows what the dogs, cats, and people will need health wise above and beyond wellness visits, new glasses, teeth cleanings, and vaccinations. Let's hope it's not much.

Here is to a great 2012. I hope it brings you all you hoped for and more!
