A Girl

Look what showed up at our house on Wednesday night.

I had to work late. Roy called to tell me a dog showed up. He to me it's a boy and he's a chocolate lab. Since I didn't meet HER until Thursday night, I thought he was all over it. Well, first thing she did was roll over on her back so I could rub her belly. Ding - this is not a boy and she doesn't look fixed. Second, I had her sit up, definitely not a lab. Retriever but is she a Chesapeake Bay Retriever? Wasn't sure. I wanted to look up a picture to see if I was right or not before I said anything to Roy. Jim shows up before I got a chance to look. He takes one look and says Chesapeake Bay Retriever. That's what I thought. Quickly ran in to look them up and she looked just like the first picture that came up.

No name on the collar. No microchip. Sy and I put up signs to see if she belonged to anyone, so far no bites. And the sad fact is it is probably how it will stay. This is going to be home from here on out, unless there is a miracle on Hwy 132.

Dippit is giving her a little bit of a hard time and in turn Roadblock is giving Dippit a hard time. Thank you Roadblock for keeping Dippit in line while whatever her name is gets acclimated.

And wouldn't it be nice to know her name? Yeah, we think so too. Sy and I want to call her Buoy. Roy wants to call her Crabcake. She doesn't answer to either. The first thing Roy called her was Bird Dog and she answers to that. It's going to be interesting to see what we evolve into for her name.

She won't stay out of the water, she doesn't bark, and she moves Roy's shoes from the shoe rack all over the garage floor. She knows the sit and wait (stop) commands.

Roy and Sy went to Tractor Supply this afternoon and bought a dog house, new collars and treats for all these furry family members.

And as I write this, I would like to note that she has been here two nights and guess who Roy just let in the house. He really is a sucker for four legs, fur, and cold noses.

UPDATE - 3/2/11
You were only here one week. You seemed sick yesterday morning and by last night at bed time, we knew something was wrong. We got up this morning and you had been sick all over the garage. Roy took you to the vet first thing this morning. They said it was parvo and gave you a 50/50 chance. We didn't know if you had been vaccinated. We were planning on doing that tomorrow afternoon but it was too late. You passed away this afternoon after a good fight.
You weren't with us long, but we enjoyed your visit. We hope to see you again one day. RIP.
