Snow in South Texas

Beginning last Sunday, the weather man kept saying we had a chance of snow on Thursday night. Really? Are you sure? We usually get a good ice storm every three to four years but it hasn't snowed since 1985. (I know I'm officially a South Texan when I know remember that.) The Christmas before Sy was born, they had snow on the coast on Christmas Eve and woke up to a white Christmas. I told Roy then that if we had kids we would have so been on our way to Corpus to see snow.

Anyway, snow. They will call it on Wednesday. Yes, we will have snow. Thursday morning, they are calling for 2-4 inches at our house (outside of the San Antonio metropolitan).

Well, it didn't start until 9:00 pm and because of a warm layer in the atmosphere, we got ice first and then a small layer of snow - and it was dry snow. Not very good for snowball fights but enough to make the roads slick. The slick roads in turn made it so that schools and offices were closed for the day. Lovely.

We did go out and enjoy the little we had. Our friends in town actually fared better because it wasn't much that fell and the ice covered the pavement. With that, they had better sleigh riding opportunities. Sy did enjoy riding his quad around in it but was content after an hour or so to come in and hang with the mama.
