The Need for Speed

Sy has been fascinated with anything with wheels and a motor since he arrived in this world. He swiped a Toy Story piggy bank car from Tadan at about 7 months old and it he hasn't looked back. We flew home when he was 8 months old and he was so intrigued with the planes and how they took off and landed, he was mesmerized. Then on his first birthday, he got a Tiger mobile. He rode that thing every day. It played music so when he was riding, he would keep pushing the button for the songs to play. It was so loud and at five in the morning it was painfully loud. Once he mastered the use feet to push motion, he tried to see how fast he could get down the hallway. This transitioned to how fast he could run behind it, pushing it around the house and chasing the cats and dogs. Needless to say, this toy found it's way outside and was banished from the inside forever.

Since then he's gotten bikes, trikes, and a quad. We have been to the air shows at Randolph and Lackland. He enjoys going to the base with Grandpa to see the planes on display. He is always asking us how fast planes, cars, motorcycles, and bicycles go and how to build them to go faster.

Roy has a client, Dr. Earle, who in addition to being an orthopedic surgeon, is a professional racer and races for Ferrari in Europe. We have his calendars and the matchbox versions of his racing cars. He's been at this for year's and has been very successful.

Knowing that Sy loves cars and going fast, Roy asked Dr. Earle if he would mind letting Sy see his car. Dr. Earle thought it was a great idea. We went today! I think I was more excited than Sy but that's because I have had a soft spot for Ferrari's since I was a teenager.

Anyway, here are the photos.

Listening to Dr. Earle telling him how to drive it.

Sy putting on the seat belt.
What a motor... and that's cute little boy too.

Going for a ride!

They went to the end of the road and Dr. Earle slowed down and asked Sy how he was doing. Sy told him he went so fast, it made his belly feel silly. Needless to say, Dr. Earle turned around and high-tailed it back. He said grown men have thrown up after riding with him and he wasn't sure Sy would warn him if he was going to toss his cookies. Roy is laughing at the end of the video because Dr. Earle was telling him what Sy said.

Thank you Dr. Earle. Sy was thrilled and I know we are going to hear about today for a very long time.
