We adopted a dog. I know, we shouldn't have. We are officially at 4 dogs, 4 cats and numerous chickens and ducks. - Add in the fish and it's crazy around here.
My friend is part of a rescue group and she sends e-mails out listing animals in need of homes. At first she was sending me Collie and Healers. I told her there was no way I would consider another Collie or Healer. Dippit is enough. I told her we would consider a Chow mix, Rhodesian Ridgeback or a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and we weren't in the market for at least another year.
Well, she sent an e-mail showing a Ridgeback in need of a home. The person who sent it got him a 24 hour stay of execution. The San Antonio ACS had a hard time tracking him down. They hadn't logged him in correctly. I have to say this was rather frustrating. How do you lose track of a dog? They were very nice and helpful in person but over the phone - nope - don't even try it. Just go there.
We went after Sy's ball game on Saturday. We got there close to closing time and it took a little bit for them to track him down. We were able to meet him and he was really laid back. He did well with Sy, the other dogs around him, and he was scared of the cats on the property. We pulled his ears, tail and pinched his paws. He wasn't phased. So he passed the tests. We said we would take him.
They needed to keep him until they could get him fixed and provide his shots. Roy picked him up on Thursday. Dippit gave him a really hard time and still kind of is... ugh... but overall he is doing well. He is house trained, sits, and comes when called. He is learning the ropes and hasn't ventured very far from the food bowl since his arrival.
ACS guessed his age at 2 and said he was a mix. We have to say, he looks pure bred from what I've seen on the Internet. More pure bred than Frito. And we would say he is still a puppy. He is clumsy like a puppy and eats like a puppy.
He will go to our vet this coming week to get his sutures out and hopefully they will be able to provide more info.
Please repeat after me, "No more dogs; no more dogs; no more dogs (or cats)."
