The Promise of a Quicker Cut

Having almost 5 acres of land is a lot of work. Most of this work is done by my honey. He takes care of the menagerie of animals, waters the plants, does the weed eating, gardening, and most of the mowing. (It sounds like I don't do anything, right? I'll let you think that.)

The field is coastal hay, the back yard is augustine, and in the middle is bermuda grass. And on top of three varieties of grass, we have a ton of weeds, and a mix of oak, ash, fruit, and mesquite trees. The obstacles are many and the numerous turns can make mowing a slow process. Right now, it takes 10-12 hours to mow it all. We have a 50 inch deck on our current mower but it's not zero turn so there is a lot of turning around and backing up involved. When it's 100 or warmer, all you want to be is DONE. And since it takes so long, at some point each year, we lose control and at the very least the back right corner is left to fend for itself and becomes an overgrown mess - and that takes even longer to tame.

The mower we have works well but is at least 10 years old, I think it's 12. Doesn't matter, it's old. So we bit the bullet. We bought a new zero-turn 50 inch mowing deck with a 23hp engine. It gets delivered this Saturday, we hope. The tracking shows it will be in SATX tomorrow and then delivery will need to be arranged from there.

We are really excited to think this machine can mow the whole property in 6 hours. The goal is to be able to keep up with the whole property on a regular basis.

No one has this exact model in the surrounding 100 miles so we have only seen the lower end model in person. I hope it's all the selling points say it is and more. Can't wait to try it out!
