The Never Ending Workout Saga

Have you done Zumba? My friend teaches classes, unfortunately she lives in Virginia so I haven't been able to partake in one of her classes. She told me via internet land that she thought I would love it. She was right. They started offering classes at the elementary school on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 - 8:30. It's perfect. Sy is asleep by 7:15. I have enough time to get up to the school before it starts. The class is full every night and we really sweat. It's a girls workout, sorry guys, and there are girls of all ages and shapes. Some can dance, some can't. Don't know which category I'm in, I think it depends on the song and the moves. I'm not sure I've lost any weight but I feel better, have more energy, and I'm happier. All good things if you ask me. If you have a class close by, I highly recommend you try it. Don't be intimidated. The moves look tricky but really they aren't. Just keep moving and it will all come together. I promise.

In addition to Zumba, I got a BOB stroller. Have you heard of them? It's fantastic and well worth the cost (if you have a large trunk to transport it in). It will hold a child up to 77 lbs. I heart that! Sy likes to chill in the seat while I push. He's a great trainer. We park at the school and walk through town. There is a slight incline from main street up to the school. It's a 1/2 mile one way. My sweet child likes to sit back with the umbrella blocking the sun, drink ice cold water, while telling me to go faster, hurry up, run, skip, jump, etc. He's bossy (not sure where that comes from) but it keeps me moving. We did three miles a night this past summer until school started. I tried to keep up after school started but I needed to wait until about 7 to go because it was too darn hot to go out at 6. It doesn't seem like an hour would make a difference but this is South Texas and it really does make a difference. Anyway, going at 7 meant we didn't get home until after 8 and then he needed to get ready for bed. By the time it was all said and done, he was falling asleep around 8:45 - way too late to have a cheerful little boy at 6:30 in the morning. We still use the stroller but more for in town stuff, like the zoo and the park. I am hoping during the summer, we can back in our routine of going late since he will only need to get to Nana's in the morning.

You may laugh but mowing the yard provides a good workout as well. Have you ever tried to push mow and bag the yard when it's 100 and humid outside? No? Well, you should. It will knock you on your tush. I'm not sure this works if you have one of those little cookie cutter yards, but I definitely don't.

I don't know what results will come from any of this. I did the San Antonio marathon two years in a row hoping it would make me svelte and thin, but alas it did not. Looking back, I didn't drop any weight but I did look good in pictures.

I am also looking for a workout I can do at home on the nights when there is no Zumba. Not sure what I'm going to get yet, but I'm looking to add strength and tighten my core (that's the in phrase in fitness circles, I had to use it). A little yoga wouldn't hurt either. I'm researching and will probably wind up with a few to test drive. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
