Our Feathered Friends, End of Week 1

Five birds survived the week. One duck died. Thursday night during the Mentalist. I though back on it today and that one bird did look odd last week - he kept falling back on his bum and having a hard time keeping his head up like he was tired -  but we just thought it was because he was smaller than the other one. I saw them at 8:40 and Roy checked on them at 9:10 - and in the that time, he/she died.

We were sure Sy was going to have a fit and be super sad so we said nothing and he didn't check on them before school. I called Moore's from the office and they had gotten a delivery the day before and they would hold one or two or all six if we wanted. How sweet.

I called Roy - go get that new duck. He didn't make it home before Sy and me and it was okay because the new duck was never going to pass for the old duck - much too small.

Sy took the news like a champ. He was really cute that night at bedtime. I told him I was thankful they had another duck for us. Sy said he wished Dada just wanted another duck and didn't need to get another because ours died.

He is still enjoying them and they are GROWING!

The new duck is the smaller one on the right, in case you couldn't tell.

Roy has been feeding them super chopped up veggies and they love them. The big duck goes ape when he sees the veggies coming. He can't get enough.

They have great eating habits, no?

One of the Polish chickens with the feathers starting to come in. Boy/Girl? We are thinking boy because there's a little attitude with those feathers.
The Golden Phoenix's are still small compared to the other birds. But they seem to be doing well. Since it got a little chilly after the rain, Roy added more blankets around the perimeter, that is the white in the background. We also added a pair of his old shorts in the corner (not in this photo) to help keep them warm.
This one is a little blurry but I enjoy their curiosity. I put the camera close to the cage and they were all like what is that? Can we eat it?

Don't mind the poop on the right. They are messy little things. I added this because it shows how small the Golden Phoenix is compared to the others.

Can't wait to see what Week 2 brings.
