A day at the River

San Antonio is lucky. We have beautiful weather pretty much every day of the year. It's sad that we don't get out an enjoy it as much as we should. I was talking with a friend about how the Austinites seem so much more outdoorsy than the San Antonians. We were trying to figure out why that was.  I know for us, as the mother's of boys, we are trying to get outside with them more and finding things to do can get hard.  Funny, isn't it?
With Roy working on the sink, I decided we needed to get out and enjoy the day.  It was a little overcast, a little chilly but still a nice day. The ground was really wet, as the three inches of rain we got just 24 hours before hadn't soaked in. So, our yard and any walking trail was out of the picture. So we went to the River Walk.  The cool thing about the river is that it has a really busy part and some not so busy parts. We focus on enjoying the not busy parts. They are the most enjoyable to we locals. (Sorry CVB friends.)
We stopped at the bread store outlet and Sy picked out a loaf of bread. We then parked on King William street and walked to the river. We had to walk up a little bit to find the ducks but find them we did. He had a ball feeding them and was so excited when more came over to get in on the action.

Found them!

When we walked up to the river bend (near the old main library), we turned back, walked to the car and headed north to the new museum reach. Before we made our way to the locks and ticket booth for tickets to ride the northern extension taxi, Sy had to pick up the acorns off the sidewalk.  What a production.

The boat took a really long time to arrive.  We used the facilities and walked the stairs about 6 times, plus just sat on the stairs for a bit.  Our driver was very detailed in giving information about the art pieces to some people on the boat and visiting.  Not bad, but he was distracted and would stop driving to talk.

Enjoying the view

The museum reach is so pretty.  They have done a great job.  The Grotto is fantastic.  Next time we come down, Sy promises we can walk it. We'll see about that.  The sun came out for a bit and it was much nicer than the day we came down in the summer.  At 110, even the boat is not refreshing to be on.
It was nice to spend the day with Sy and share this with him.  Can't wait for next time.
