Getting ready for the Holidays. Thanksgiving is next week and I have some Christmas gifts bought already and stored in my closet. How cool am I? I have never been this organized and I'm sure as soon as I get done taking the last bite of pumpkin pie next Thursday it will explode in my face. But just to keep me on the right path, I have made my list and am checking it twice. And I will pray, please don't let me stray, please don't let me stray.
Up until this point, I have been very good about only getting Sy three presents. No, I'm trying to be a Scrooge. The child gets a ton of gifts, especially since his birthday is two weeks before that wonderful gift gorging holiday. Getting him too many gifts gets him overwhelmed and a little bit lost because he doesn't know where to focus. With three gifts under the tree, he takes time to really look at each one and inspect what it does and doesn't do. Since they are not wrapped he gets to start playing immediately. It's a good thing until this year. I knew it was going to happen and staying to three gifts is going to be hard this year! But I'm going to keep myself restrained. I want to make sure he understands the reason for the season.
Keeping to three gifts for the little guy and making my list for everyone on our list helps me stay within budget. I just have to limit my shopping outings which is easy when you live 24 miles from the nearest mall (and it's not that nice) and have a 3 (almost 4) year old as your tag-a-long.
Our goals for the next few months are:
1. Get Home Depot paid off - so we can charge more (it's a never ending cycle). We want to build a fort for Sy and a mini garage under it for his battery-operated fire truck and add a slide.
2. Save money for a new truck for Roy. His van is 14 years old. It's had a good life, but one day it's just not going to start. I hope we are ready for that day.
3. Build up our savings. For life's little emergencies - ya know what I mean?
