The Birds

The birds are growing! The hardest part about taking care of them is with the 100+ degree temps during the day you have to check the water in their drinking container.  We got them a large water container but they either play in it all day or it leaks because when we get home, it's almost or definitely empty.

We have mushed up veggies in the food processor and they enjoy those each evening. I started adding more water to the mixture so it's easier for the ducks to eat. They enjoy the veggies but to eat, they have to stop and get a drink after each bite if they are dry. When they are wet, the water helps them get the veggies down.

No matter how neat you try to be with their food, they will make a mess.
This is the mama Golden Phoenix.

This is rooster Golden Phoenix. He should get a long tail.

These are the crazy Polish chickens.
The red one is a rooster in case the red around his face didn't give it away. He's getting aggressive. Over the weekend, he bit me while I was trying to feed them. I sprayed him with water. He tried it with Roy too and Roy went and got the glove. He did to protect himself but because they hadn't seen it before Mr. Rooster was not a fan of the glove and got out of it's way.

The ducks in their bath tub. They love this thing. They wait for you to empty the water and refill it with fresh, clean water and they they spend the next 30 minutes quacking and taking turns getting in and taking their bath. It's really funny.

The brown duck has the loudest quack and as soon as he hears you in the garage, he starts. I told him he really is a guinea hen in disguise.

We are hoping to move them over to the Arizona Ash tree on the other side of the greenhouse this weekend. They will get a fenced in area to roam where the dogs can't get at them. We are only putting up 36" fencing so if they want to venture out they can, but the dogs can't get in. The ducks will also get a bigger bath area. It will be so exciting!

I'll post photos of that project once complete.
