Today was our day to go to the circus. It comes to San Antonio every year for Fourth of July. It used to be at the Freeman Coliseum but has moved to the Alamodome. Grandma and Grandpa took Sy the last three years. This year they opted for Disney on Ice - Toy Story because the circus hadn't been confirmed.
Well the circus did confirm and we decided that we would take the little guy this year. G&G got us the tickets as our Mother's Day and Father's Day present, which was very nice of them. They also gave Sy some spending money for all the goodies he likes while enjoying the show.
We had great seats very close to the floor and a nice view for all the acts. It's very different from what I remember as a child and even up into my early twenties. When I first moved to SATX, my friend would get tickets from her well-connected mom for the circus. One year I went with her. As a child, we were in the nosebleed section and no goodies were to be had. We couldn't afford it. I always wanted to sit down in the front. With my friend, I did. Front row at the Freeman Coliseum. AND I got cotton candy. It was heaven. And the circus seemed bigger than it was today...but I've also aged by almost 20 years...
The show today was very entertaining. It seemed much more of an entertainment production that the circus' I remember.
This was part of the opening and the parade of all the acts.
They also had tigers.
Clowns with silly skits.
A high wire act, which was right over our heads.
Motorcycles in the sphere which Sy was totally excited about. He is trying to convince us that he can ride a motorcycle even though he can't ride his bike without training wheels. Not happening. There are 5 motorcycles in there...
For intermission, Sy wanted the iPhone to play tic-tac-toe and listen to Breaking the Law. By this time, we were done with the lemonade and cotton candy. The popcorn was 1/2 gone because Daddy was helping with that and I was sitting with a bag holding the program, clown nose, and the top hat from the cotton candy.
The circus isn't the circus without elephants... this is also the part of the show where Sy said, "I need to use the restroom." I told him, "It's almost over, just hold on." And he did. Phew!
And a grand finale.
A lot of the photos I took came out blurry. It's very hard to take a good photo with the crazy lighting of a show. It's okay, it allowed us to take it all in.
On the way back to the car, Sy let us know that while he didn't mind us coming with him this time, next year he will go back to coming to the circus with Grandma and Grandpa.
So thank you G&G for the tickets. We had a lot of fun and we promise to enjoy our day next year while you are at the circus with Sy.
